To go from a whimper to a mighty roar, this stunning car received the special Novitec treatment, in the form of a new Race Performance Exhaust system.

The new Maserati MC20 is simply a stunning supercar that can turn heads with its dynamic beauty and blistering quickness. It is the spearhead of the carmaker’s foray into a new era. If there’s something the MC20 lacks, it’s the loudness usually associated with supercars. Novitec has addressed this, and The Supercar Diaries series on YouTube is a proof it has.

Thanks to Maserati’s new Nettuno engine, the MC20 can fulfill its supercar status. This twin-turbocharged mill is capable of delivering around 620 hp of max output and 538 lb-ft of peak torque. The Maserati-developed Nettuno engine can propel the MC20 from zero to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and to a top speed of 202 mph.

For some drivers, though, driving is not just about piloting a vehicle from point A to point B. For them, driving is also an experience, and it is a process that connects the human to the machine. Thus, an immersive driving experience that involves multiple senses is necessary. Nevertheless, the MC20 supercar may seem lacking in the noise aspect. This is where Novitec’s expertise comes in.

Bijon De Kock, host of The Supercar Diaries, brought a white Maserati MC20 that Novitec has partially upgraded. Novitec has been making supercars louder than usual with various solutions including exhaust and muffler units. For the MC20, the initial solution that Novitec came up with was simple – install its own race exhaust muffler.

To see how loud an MC20 can be with Novitec's race exhaust muffler, De Kock measured it with a decibel meter. As soon as the driver pressed the gas pedal, the MC20 let out a wild growl, and De Kock stood behind the car to measure the loudness. The device showed a rating of around 112 dB, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that a two-minute exposure to noises above 110 dB can cause hearing damage.

Novitec, however, isn’t finished with the MC20. It's taking its time, since the supercar’s software is quite advanced. The company intends to install the Novitec Race Performance Exhaust system with CAT-replacement pipes without reprogramming the software. Novitec will employ an OBD plugin module (called the Techtronic) to prevent the computer from indicating any error.

As De Kock indicated, Novitec will fully convert this MC20, and that includes wrapping the supercar with a full carbon fiber body kit. The Supercar Diaries will show the final product as soon as it’s done.
