The Broomfield Police Department still has 23 steering wheel locks, also known as “clubs,” to give away as part of a partnership with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority.

BPD and CATPA teamed up throughout July as part of Auto Theft Prevention Month. The police department started the month with 50 steering wheel locks to hand out to qualifying individuals to aid in auto theft prevention.

If anyone is interested in receiving a free club they must meet a few requirements, including being a Broomfield resident with proof of residency, their car should be on the “Top 10 most stolen list,” and they must fill out a registration card at the police department. The registration will be used to gauge in the future whether or not the club was effective, according to the announcement on broomfield.org.

The “Top 10 most stolen list” includes Chevrolet Silverado, Kia Sportage, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Tucson, Ford F-250, Honda Civic, GMC Sierra and the Honda Accord.

The clubs are given away on a first-come, first-serve basis, and previous victims of auto-theft will be given priority. There is a one club per household rule.

Eligible participants who meet all the qualifications can visit the department at 7 DesCombes Drive on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make sure to bring the vehicle you intend to protect and provide all necessary information to the front desk.

If anyone has questions, email the Broomfield Police Department at bpd@broomfield.org.
